In Psalm 23 there are places Our Shepherd
leads us depicted as restful green pastures—
still waters that refresh our souls—and
righteous paths! These are scenes of peace
where we long to live!
The mood then changes to “walking in the
shadow of death”! How could this compare
with the former refreshing description? The
answer is–“I will fear no evil”!
The greater miracle of the power of God in
us is not in the places absent of adversity—
but in the midst of a raging storm when He
fills us with His absolute peace!
We then realize the outward circumstances
are not in control—Indeed it is the Presence
of God that is not only nearby, but in reality
is inside! Even though the winds of adversity
may linger—God’s peace can outlast them!
(I experienced this recently on Easter Sunday–
2020 close to midnight–Tornado winds swept
over our house–through our neighborhood and
on to those beyond us here in Chattanooga, TN.
A gushing of the Spirit of God rose up from within
us while the constant lightening flashed and the
storm raged! We sensed our shelter was in God
alone! I was amazed at the peace of God that
absolutely reigned in our hearts!
After the storm, I felt thoroughly cleansed on the
inside by the Spirit’s intercession that had flowed
through us! And…our house was still standing!)
