Desires lay in each of us–some for things
we need–others are for things we want!
What do we long for above any other thing?
Is it career and possessions, fame and fortune,
relationship with others, or a quiet peaceful
life with just the basics for living?
What are the passions that drive us—for what
goal do we strive—and what is the reward of
reaching it? Is it worthy of all the effort?
King David of the Bible reached many pinnacles
of success—power over wild beasts, the death
of Goliath, the conquering of armies who came
against God’s people, ultimate victory over
personal enemies—the becoming of a powerful
king with riches and fame!
But—King David’s passion was God!
The desperate cry of his soul was:
“As the deer pants for the water brooks
So pants my soul for You, Oh God.”
Psalm 42:1
Is God our desperate passion after whom we
continually seek? All other “brooks” fade in value
compared to the “Water Brooks of His Presence”
