Psalm 135:15-18 reads as follows:
“The idols of the nations are silver and gold, The
work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they
do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see;
They have ears, but they do not hear; Nor is there
any breath in their mouths. Those who make them
are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.”
Mark 8:18 tells the story of the disciples worrying
about the lack of bread–shortly after seeing Jesus
multiply the loaves and fish to feed the multitude!
His response to them was: “Having eyes, do you not
see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you
not remember?”
These passages allow us to comprehend –if our eyes
are going to see, our ears to hear and our hearts to
understand the ways of God, we must focus our lives
on Him–for we become like the things we behold
(whether they are life-giving or dead works).
(Prayer)
Lord, May we not try to mix our worship of You with
the dead works of mankind—we greatly desire for
“our eyes to see” and “our ears to hear” what You
would communicate to us!
Revelation 3:18,20
“…anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see…
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears
My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him
dine with him, and he with Me.”
